Hey all so been going over some research on Aero upgrades for the Z and just thought Id open up a thread here so we can all throw ideas in the pot and benefit from the research.

So the idea that I have been going over and researching and trolling around with guys on HybridZ.org is about how to keep the front end from catching too much air to the point that you start to get float at higher speeds like highway+ speeds (120mph+)

So some things that we have found to help "flow" is to try and prevent air from gathering in bad places like under the hood, in and around the front bumper....some things that can help with this are things like.....

Radiator Cooling panels: These are the little plate things that go over tyhe Radiator sure they look cool but their real purpose is to keep air from coming up over the radiator gathering up under the hood causing a somewhat parachute effect. (cough Mike H you might want one of these for that hood issue you had cough).
Air going thru the radiator and intercooler good, but air getting trapped excessively under the hood bad...causes lift on the front end and strain and those light carbon fiber hoods and hoods in general.

Ok now we get into some more complex and probably more custom made modifications.

Lower Splash Guard: This is that large plastic piece most of us will find along the bottom of most newer cars...they serve a couple purposes like keeping water and debris etc etc from getting up into the engine bay....but they also help air flow quickly under the car. The more quickly the air flows the less pressure it creates under the car (like a airfoil the foil will try to more into the area of least resistence ie the low pressure area) so if the pressure under the car becomes high then you will begin to get lift at higher speeds. So having them there is aa added benefit and will allow you to "slip" through the air alot easier then to not have them and keep the higher pressure above your car keeping it planted to the ground.

Rear diffuser: This part kinda like the lower guard helps air flow from under the car...some of your more sporty cars already have these like new Evos etc etc. they assist with air moving from under the car = greater pressure above car = better downforce. most car's rear bumpers act like a big parachute since they are usually hollow underneath the car with no where for trapped air to escape. alot of fwd cars will have the fuel cell in the area right before the rear bumper to try and minimize this but not perfectly, and aftermarket bumper are horribly worst at this since they are usually lower then the stock bumpers causing more of a scoop effect. SO the rear diffuser help cover the area of this gap/chute and helps channel air under and out the rear of the car alot more quickly causing even less pressure.

Another possible hindering is air that escapes around the sides of the radiator and intercooler....this will require some creativity since the most optimal setup you would want would be plenty of air getting to the intercooler/radiator BUT without alot of it getting around the sides and collecting under the hood (unless you have a vented hood or the like). So for this you would have to make something custom that channels the air directly into the radiator/intercooler with a little as possible seeping around them. How you do this is up to you, but I have been considering making a template out of cardboard or whatever and then making the actual parts out of Carbon fiber sheets that can be found at places like Dragonplate.com.

These are just a couple ideas I have been looking at doing along with a couple others more specific to the Z but I'm sure you all get the idea....so any thoughts on this?

lol not much to do over here man and not alot of car heads not that you have to worry too much the Vette has alot of these things already taken care of....but some of the rest of us have to make a few modifications lol. Twisted Evil

Now i just need to find a good weld guy to put my welding chassis reinforcement into action before i throw the paint on the Z.

Plus gotta keep the topics coming not alot of active ppl on here.
